Why is a nonresident sitting on City Council?
I firmly believe that Councilman Christian Pearson should promptly resign from his council position. Let me present the facts: according to public voting records, Mr. Pearson has not lived within Aledo's city limits since June 2023. The home rule charter explicitly mandates that all council members must be residents of the city of Aledo.
This situation raises significant concerns. Not only has Mr. Pearson lost the right to vote in local elections, but his role in voting to make crucial decisions involving millions of dollars for the City of Aledo must also be brought into question. It leaves me wondering whether his position is influenced by his close relationship with Mayor Nick Stanley.
My motivation for bringing this to light is my unwavering belief in a transparent and fair Aledo. There is a multiplicity of instances of corruption within Aledo City Hall, where state laws are disregarded. This case is just one example. The conduct and personnel of the City Council require scrutiny. What troubles me deeply is not only their lack of action upon learning about Mr. Pearson's change of residence, but also their failure to communicate with the concerned community member who reported this matter. This begs the question, Why?
Let's not forget that the City Council is here to serve the people of Aledo, not to further the interests of any individual, business, or combination thereof.
